From Bend we headed up to the Mt Hood area for lots more hiking.
The first thing we did after arriving in Mt Hood was head over to Trillium Lake. It was kinda busy, but had a great view.In the morning I went up to Mirror Lake. And then further up the mountain where I had incredible 360 views of 5 different snowy peaks. Then we headed up to the historic Timerline Lodge where we had a lunch buffet with an excellent view. It’s a charming spot. Although it was actually quite busy with tons of teenagers around doing summer skiing! After lunch we hiked up to Tamanawas Falls together. Okay hike, but the falls themselves were great.Next morning it was time for another hike and another waterfall! This time Ramona Falls. The falls are actually really quite large, about 30m tall. What’s really novel is the way that the water cascades down the rock formations. We particularly loved the super green and mossy trail down through the forest alongside a stream.I’d left my socks behind so ended up hiking in the Tevas that I’d bought for tubing in Bend. They were a huge success, extremely comfortable. I’ll certainly be using them again for non-technical hikes. At one point you need to cross the Sandy River which is still flowing fairly strongly. We enjoyed balancing over the log.We decided that we’d seen enough of Mt Hood so that afternoon we drove further North to the nearby area of Hood River. On the way we stopped at this cute little winery where we also tasted 8 ciders! In the morning I was up and at it again, this time off to Tunnel Falls. It’s most famous for this section, where the trail has been blasted behind the falls in a tunnel. I actually continued on a little farther to yet another set of very steep falls just beyond. The trail is really interesting because it runs along the river, but is built into a very steep valley. So there are lots of precarious sections.Back through the tunnel to get home.We popped over to a lovely winery for some snacks and drinks. Before hitting a lavendar farm which was also gorgeous. We stayed in a lovely little lodge overlooking the impressive Colombia River. This is where I wrote this post!
