Clouds Rest

September, 2024

I decided that I felt like an epic hike and managed to get a weekend in Curry Village to do it. Jules opted not to join, so it was a solo trip.

Just being in the valley is always so special and beautiful.

It's a big day out, so I started just before dawn to avoid the heat. You can see it on Strava here. Just under 33km (20+ miles); 1800m (5970ft) of elevation; 6h22 moving.

It's such a long hike that I knew I would need a lot of water. But I also wanted to go light. So I took along water filtration gear and refilled along the way. I've not done that before and rather enjoyed it.
I was lucky to have a gorgeous day, I was well ahead of any crowds, and the views were fab on the way
One of the cool things about this hike is that you end up well above Half Down, looking down the valley at it.
Views from the top.
As per tradition, as soon as I was showered I grabbed a large pizza and some beer at Curry Village. To my surprise I didn't come close to finishing the pizza.
After refueling I grabbed a couple of beers and my Kindle and found a stunning spot at the river to just relax.
This is my spot, and you can see that I am feeling very relaxed and happy.
The next morning I got up before dawn and drove up to Glacier Point to watch the sunrise before heading home.
